FROM THE EAST

February 19, 2010

Brethren,

Let me begin by backing up a little and discuss the Called Communication we had on January 21st. Again, this was, in my opinion, another record setter. We had over 30 Brethren present when we passed Brother Mark Sykes to the degree of Fellowcraft. I can not remember having trouble making room for so many Brothers lining up to bring Brother Sykes to further light in Masonry. Also, this was the first time Brother Jonathan Turner from Glen Allen #131 performed the Advanced Lecture. He did an outstanding job on this and we were honored to have him in Lodge with us and have him do this part of the degree.

I am real sorry if you missed our February Stated Communication and the official visit of our District Deputy, Right Worshipful Peter Miller. Right Worshipful Pete took the extra time to look up some interesting facts about Metropolitan Lodge #11 in general and Dove Lodge #51 in particular and some of our more illustrious members and their roles in the Civil War. Right Worshipful Brother Pete also delivered an outstanding message from our Grand Master, Most Worshipful William Earle Rorer, Jr., and his programs for 2010.

Brethren, as I said above, I am sorry if you missed our February Stated and about 90% of you did. When we read our Masonic Birthdays we had 76 Masonic Years present out of a total of 948. That represents about 8% which is what we seem to consistently get, between 8 and 10 percent of our members present. If you have not been to lodge for sometime, now might just be the time to give it a try and see the fellowship, good food and good times you have been missing. I am really at a loss as to why so many of our Brethren don’t join us. I have tried to put together some enjoyable and entertaining programs for the year, just as Right Worshipful Brother Stuart did last year, and everyone in attendance has really put forth an effort to make the time we spend in Lodge enjoyable and fun (believe me - the fun is usually at my expense).

For our March Stated, we will have the honor of hearing Worshipful Wilbur Matthews speaking on the subject of “What Can We Say”. This deals with what we can say to prospective Masons that might peak their interest in our fraternity. It also plays into the other theme for the night, “Bring a Friend”. While I really want to get many of our Brethren BACK in Lodge, I also want to show our “friends” what we have and what they are missing by NOT being a Mason.

Join us Thursday, March 11th. Bring a Friend.

It is YOUR Lodge, YOUR Fraternity, YOUR History and it is YOU that is needed.

I’m going to be there - How About YOU?

                "150 Years Young and Growing"

     Sincerely and Fraternally,
     Brother Tom Wadkins. W.M.

FROM THE SECRETARY AND TREASURER

Brethren,

Please, when writing your check for your dues, remit the correct amount of $128.00 to prevent unnecessary confusion by having the Treasurer either return your check as insufficient payment or having to request that you send the amount needed to satisfy your dues requirement. Full payment is required before you can get your 2010 dues card.

We thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Wade V. Evans, Jr., Treasurer and Charles S. Sarbaugh, Secretary
